Before December 23, 2002, C.J. Howard was just your typical UCI student.
He was a freshman from Crescenta Valley High School. He had already changed his major from Spanish to history. He lived in Mesa Court, and he had come to UCI primarily because he didn’t want to go to a state school.
He also ran cross country and track for UCI, which meant that the nagging pain in his left heel concerned him, but he and his doctors didn’t think much of it
