UCI Professor Makes Brain Cell Research Discovery
The study revealed the ways in which adults grow new neurons in the brain and how these new cells mature in the part of the brain associated with memory and learning.
Through conducting research on the brains of adult rats, Professor Charles E. Ribak found that stem cells could potentially mature into new neurons.
These findings could significantly impact treatments for memory-related illnesses such as Alzheimer’s.
Ribak’s findings appeared in the March 12 issue of the journal Brain Research, which commemorated the publication’s 1,000th volume.
