Baseball is Washed Away by the Waves
Malibu, Calif. – March 13 – The UC Irvine Men’s Baseball team lost to the Pepperdine Waves 4-1 at Eddy D. Field Stadium.
Irvine scored their only run from catcher Mark Wagner’s single to bring in infielder Brett Dalton in the top of the first.
The Waves caught up to Irvine in the fourth with a home run by Mike Craig. Craig hit another home run in the fifth.
Pepperdine improve to 6-9 while Irvine fell to 13-5-1.

Men’s Golf Places Second in Classic
Beaumont, Calif. – March 9 – The UC Irvine Men’s Golf team placed second at the UC Riverside-Braveheart Classic at the PGA of Southern California Champions Course.
UC Irvine finished with a 54-hole total of 913 points while Saint Mary’s won the classic with 909 points.
Senior Vinnie Poncino placed third overall with 224 points. Sophomore Jay Choe came in 12th (229), sophomore Will Park was 16th (230).

Men’s Volleyball Loses to UCSD
San Diego, Calif. – March 12 – After the ninth-ranked UC Irvine Men’s Volleyball team (8-14, 4-11 MPSF) were two games down, they could not defeat 15th-ranked UC San Diego (7-14, 3-12) and finished the game 3-2 (30-28, 30-24, 18-30, 28-30, 15-10) at the RIMAC Arena.
Senior Jimmy Pelzel led UCI with 23 kills in the match.

Divers Compete in NCAA Regional
Oklahoma City, Okla. – March 12 – Sophomore diver Anton Slobounov placed 17th in the three-meter competition with a total score of 425.60 points at the NCAA Zone E regional while fellow sophomore diver Franny Brittle placed 31st in the women’s three-meter event with a score of 163.70.
Slobounov placed 21st in the one-meter event with 231.20 points while Brittle took 29th in the women’s one-meter competition with a total of 117.40.

Turpin Places 13th at NCAA Meet
Fayetteville, Ark. – March 13 – UC Irvine senior multi-event competitor Annmarie Turpin placed 13th in the pentathlon at the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships.
Turpin finished with 3,779 points overall in the five events she competed in: the 60-meter hurdles, high jump, shot put, long jump and 800-meters.
