It’s time for a musical extravaganza. Bright lights, booming voices and vibrancy dominated the Bren Events Center stage on Friday evening as 20 Greek chapters of sororities and fraternities paired up together in a spectacular show of talent, featuring some of our favorite Broadway musicals including ‘Hairspray,’ ‘Singing in the Rain,’ ‘Wicked,’ ‘Damn Yankees,’ ‘Swing,’ ‘Oklahoma,’ ‘Chorus Line,’ ‘Our Town,’ ‘Saturday Night Fever’ and ‘Ragtime.’
The evening began with an exuberant presentation of ‘Damn Yankees,’ performed by Kappa Zeta Phi and Sigma Nu, followed by nine other songs by other Greek chapters. Each of the pieces represented different styles of eras including disco music, swing dance and Western tunes.
Songfest performer Mary Ann Bailey, a third-year psychology major, expressed her reason for participating in the event.
‘We get to interact with different fraternities and it’s a great chance to get on stage and perform. And since I’ve been doing it for so long, it’s a wonderful opportunity to continue it through college,’ Bailey said.
Each musical number lasted about 12 minutes, which is only a tiny fraction of the preparation time that went into each performance
