‘Friday Night Lights’ is a sports movie, but it’s not just ‘another’ sports movie. On the surface, it’s a film based on the H.G. Bissinger novel of the same title about the events surrounding the 1988 football season of the Permian High School Panthers. Beneath the surface, the film is about realizing that the only true winners in this cutthroat, bone-crushing sport are the ones who fully understand whom they’re playing for.
The story of ‘FNL’ takes place in Odessa, Texas, in 1988, and revolves around Coach Gary Gaines (Billy Bob Thornton) and his struggling football team who strive to make it to the state championship. In Texas, fans and players mean serious business when it comes to football
