Directed by David O. Russell, the creative mind behind ‘Three Kings’ and ‘Flirting With Disaster,’ ‘I Heart Huckabees’ is an entertaining tale of two existentialist theories, one about the universal bond of all things (think, ‘What the #$*! Do We Know?’ another film on the cruelty of reality.) All of this undercuts the story of one man’s search for the pivotal answer to an ultimately irrelevant question.
Now, having understood a little bit about the movie, there are two ways you can approach ‘I Heart Huckabees.’ On one side, you can view the movie as Philosophy 7 (Introduction to Existentialism) wrapped into a movie, and it will be far less interesting. Conversely, you can approach the movie with no expectations and watch the story unfold before you.
I did the latter.
The only impression I had from the movie was from a trailer I had seen in a previous movie at University Town Center 6
