A new technique that can expedite the development of vaccines for infectious diseases like malaria, smallpox, tuberculosis and AIDS was recently announced by David Huw Davies, associate project scientist of molecular biology, and Philip Felgner, head researcher in the Center for Virus Research.
The new technique involves two processes. One involves cloning genes from a pathogen and synthesizing their proteins much more quickly than was possible in the past.
The second uses the expeditiously developed proteins in a microarray
