Will you go through the looking glass with me?
I’d like to set up a little alternate-reality scenario, an exploration of two characters. Well, actually, an exploration of the subtextual messages delivered by two characters. They are very famous characters, probably the most famous characters in America today: George W. Bush and Arnold Schwarzenegger.
But remember, we are now on the other side of the looking glass. You must leave behind your beliefs, leave behind everything you’ve heard about these men and all that you’d normally think and feel about them. Don’t worry, your beliefs are loyal and they will wait patiently for your return. No one will take them.
At the very top of our grand American economic structure sits George W. Bush, the 43rd president of the United States. He is charming, affable and bit of a goof sometimes. But he is eminently successful and he comes from one of the best families in America. He is so perfectly qualified for the job of president that he is now serving his second term.
Closer to home but also at the top of a vast economic structure, we have Arnold Schwarzenegger, a man equally qualified, though for a different role
