UCI to Honor Nobel Peace Prize Laureate
On May 21, UC Irvine will present the UCI Citizen Peacebuilding Award to Shirin Ebadi, an Iranian human rights lawyer and Nobel Peace Prize laureate.
Ebadi is the only Iranian to win the Nobel Peace Prize, which she received in 2003 for her human rights activism and is the first female judge in her country. She has worked toward changing Iran’s discriminatory laws against women and more protection for children.
She currently teaches law at the University of Tehran.
