The Plame affair, a scandal surrounding the leak of a CIA operative’s identity, is very complex and is slowly beginning to be understood. The leak, no matter how the Bush administration wants to spin it, seems like a vengeful move to get back at the operative’s husband, Joseph C. Wilson.
Wilson, a career foreign service officer, became a target of the Bush administration after he wrote an oped piece in the New York Times in July 2003 explaining his role in the investigation of weapons of mass destruction in relation to the Iraq war. In the essay, he accused Bush of ‘exaggerating the Iraqi threat’ to justify the war.
