Women’s Soccer Gouged by Gauchos

On inflatable-soccer-ball-giveaway night at the Women’s Soccer match against UC Santa Barbara on Oct. 7, someone forgot to tell the UC Irvine players that they weren’t supposed to be in on the promotion.
It seemed like UCI was giving the game away in the early going by allowing Santa Barbara to score two quick goals in the first 20 minutes of the match. Despite UCI’s second-half attempts to mount a comeback, this proved to be too tall of a task as the Anteaters (3-9-1, 0-2 Big West) fell to the Gauchos (7- 6, 1-0) by a final score of 3-0 in a Big West Conference match.
‘I thought we gave the game away,’ said UCI Head Coach Marine Cano. ‘When you get scored on in the [first 10 minutes] and then let them score again in the 13th minute and at halftime it’s two-nil. In any game you play anywhere in the country you have a big mountain
