ASUCI Visits Berkeley to Protest Regents

On Nov. 17, more than 300 students rallied outside of the UC Regents meeting at UC Berkeley to protest cuts to financial aid and student fee hikes.
Students displayed various signs and banners saying, ‘Stop the Fee Hikes,’ ‘Higher Education, Not Higher Fees’ and ‘It’s Not a Solution, It’s a Sellout.’
The protests were successful in one aspect, as students convinced the UC Regents to expand their financial aid policy to state that 33 percent of any fee increase will go toward students in need of financial aid. This represents a $6 million increase in aid that will be distributed among UC students.
