On Nov. 4, the 2005 Center for Unconventional Security Affairs’ Human Security Summit began at UC Irvine.
The summit was held under the Coalition Advocating Human Security, a program developed by UCI’s CUSA to study human rights issues around the world. The CUSA attempts to address security issues such as terrorism by investigating the human rights issues that instigate them.
‘We feel that we have a moral obligation to do what we can,’ said Richard Matthew, director of the CUSA.
The central focus of the summit was a discussion by Zainab Salbi, president and CEO of Women for Women International. Salbi was the author of ‘Between Two Worlds: Escape From Tyranny
