Kanye West at the Bren Irvine Cares About Black People

The timing couldn’t have been much worse.
The Monday of Dec. 5 was the first day of Finals Week, and the last hurried chance for most UC Irvine students to relearn all of fall quarter.
It was also the night that Kanye West’s highly anticipated ‘Touch the Sky’ tour touched down at the UCI Bren Events Center.
For many students, the choice between burning the midnight oil to prepare for finals and watching the controversial hip-hop artist perform live was an easy one to make.
‘I’ve been meaning to see [West] in concert for the longest time,’ said third-year social ecology major Jeffrey Lim.
When one of Lim’s friends called him on Sunday night offering an extra ticket to the soldout show, Lim couldn’t refuse, his fast-approaching finals notwithstanding.
‘After all, he is my hero,’ Lim said with a laugh.
The concert, which featured performances by fellow hip-hop artists Keyshia Cole and ‘American Idol’ winner Fantasia Barrino, drew an impressive capacity crowd.
Though the majority of the concert-goers were college- or high school-aged, there were a good number of older adults scattered throughout the audience, alongside the droves of the self-proclaimed ‘Louis Vuitton Don’s’ look-alikes
