Mark Twain once wrote, ‘Modesty died when clothes were born.’
It’s too bad he was wrong. Perhaps it was Twain who began the false belief, still prevalent today, that a person cannot be truly modest in spite of their clothing. Now I’m left here cleaning up his dirty work and years of mental poisoning.
Here at UC Irvine, fashion varies widely among students; however, one of the more popular modes of dress is what I call designer humility. Designer humility is the stuff you can pick up at stores like Abercrombie & Fitch, American Eagle Outfitters and Hollister. The style is casual, distressed and understated
