That there exists a humanitarian crisis in Darfur is undeniable. Over a million people have fled their homes and currently have little or no access to clean water, let alone health or sanitary services.
It is a disgrace that the global community is not doing more to aid the people of that region.
On the other hand, claiming that the conflict is a deliberate act of ethnic cleansing and calling for divestment from Sudan does little to resolve the situation peacefully.
The call for divestment is based on the U.S. government’s claim that the conflict in Darfur is genocide, committed by the Sudanese government in an attempt to gain control over that region and its resources.
