We’ve all been there. You’re having a great meal out with friends or a date and then that dreaded moment comes when the check is dropped on the table and reality sets in—that you have to pay for that full stomach.
Having been a server for the past six years, I’ve dropped plenty of checks in my day. One of a server’s favorite pastimes is reading a guest and trying to predict how big of a tip they’ll leave.
All servers have their stereotypes when it comes to how people tip, and I’ve heard them all. But one stereotype that consistently proves true when I drop that check is that young people don’t know how to tip.
Don’t get me wrong, some under-25-year-olds do very well at restaurants—leaving the server a very respectable sum. But more often than not, servers are short-changed
