It’s the Zen-like otherworldly aura that captivates as you walk into the traveling Nomadic Museum, designed by architect Shigeru Ban, which houses Ashes and Snow. After more than a decade of filming around the world, Gregory Colbert’s photographic and film-based event now makes its way to the Santa Monica Pier.
A simple, narrow, wooden-planked walkway is framed by bronzed columns, which direct your eyes toward a large screen showing one of Colbert’s three short films. The film is washed over in tones of bronze and sepia and accompanied by the music of a hypnotist.
