The defending Big West Conference champion UC Irvine Women’s Golf Team is now the two-time defending champion after it cut down the rest of the competition with ease, winning by an impressive 43 strokes over second-place Long Beach State.
Although UCI had already won two other tournaments this year, the conference’s coaches voted to seed the Anteaters second. This only helped to fuel an already confident and hungry squad.
‘I have felt all year that we were the best team in the conference,’ said UCI Head Coach Kelly Crawford. ‘We also had a little motivation going into this championship as we were given the No. 2 seed as voted on by the coaches.’
She added, ‘We have gone undefeated against LBSU and the conference teams all year and we were a bit disappointed that we were not recognized for that. I will admit I knew we would win, but I didn’t expect to win by 43 shots. I guess you could say we walked the walk.’
