While many students see Veterans’ Day, which is on Nov. 11, as just another holiday for sleeping in, students sometimes need to be reminded that the holiday was created to honor all the people who have served in American wars.
War is a controversial issue, and while UC Irvine students have protested military recruiters in the past, some students feel it is important to recognize soldiers for the service they have done to defend America.
Paul Chin, a third-year history major, is currently a sergeant in the U.S. Army Reserve. The Army Reserve is a branch of the U.S. military and is made up of soldiers who have gone through basic training but are not active soldiers until called upon for duty
