Bicyclists Being Irrational and Selfish

The recent decision to resume enforcement of UC Irvine’s long-standing ban on bicycles on Ring Mall has been met with hostility from UCI’s vocal minority of bike-riders, who would have you believe that the policy amounts to a complete ban on bike-riding on campus.
The reality is that bicyclists still have virtually free reign to ride to and from all points on campus. In fact, there are dedicated bike paths serving the Arroyo Vista and Vista del Campo housing complexes. (See the UCI bike map on the http://www.bike.uci.edu Web site for more information about campus bike routes.)
Riders also still have access to the outer ring of Aldrich Park, which provides nearly all of the convenience of Ring Mall (and connects to Ring Mall in six places), but which has far less pedestrian traffic for riders to contend with.
