UC Santa Barbara Men’s Soccer Vindicates Big West Conference

Out of the 48 teams selected to participate in the NCAA Division I Soccer Championship, there was only one team representing the Big West Conference. Apparently, that’s all the conference needed.
The UC Santa Barbara Gauchos completed a remarkable run through the playoffs, winning six straight games, including a 2-1 victory over UCLA in the championship game to capture the 2006 National Championship.
Right about now, you might wonder why a UC Irvine newspaper is taking solace in the accomplishments of one of Irvine’s most hated rivals when it comes to men’s soccer.
What the Gauchos demonstrated during the three-week tournament is exactly what Anteater fans and I have been preaching during the soccer season
