Stem-Cell Grants Excellent News

As reported in the Feb. 26 issue of the New University, UC Irvine has received $3.5 million from the California Institute for Regenerative Medicine. Additionally, the CIRM will award research projects with up to $80 million over the next four years. This comes on the heels of the enormously generous June 2006 donation by Sue and Bill Gross of $10 million, earmarked for stem-cell research.
This is fantastic news, both for the over 60,000 non-human animals currently imprisoned inside UCI laboratories, and for every human who stands to benefit from medicine.
Simply put, vivisection (the use of live animals in experimentation) is an outdated and unreliable model, and it is slowing down real scientific and medical progress. Due to genetic differences
