Jaclyn Baccaro is a second-year English major.
What is the state of external affairs and what would you do differently?
I believe that the current state of external affairs is very good. Our relationship with University of California Students Association is very good. We are sending our largest constituency to many of their events which include the Color Conference and the Lobby Convention. But the problem is we’re not pushing the UCI agenda to the UCSA. UCI is not getting a voice in this UC system-wide organization and I think that’s what we need to focus on, instead of following what all the other UC schools want.
What differentiates you from other candidates?
I have the knowledge and experience to make decisions benefiting the entire UCI community and the passion to work hard for my fellow students. As your at-large representative I serve UCI by advocating for students on issues such as transportation and housing. I will continue this work and use my experience within UCSA, lobbycore and the EVP Office to better inform and involve students and to improve campus life.

What is the state of external affairs and what would you do differently?
I would have to say that the state of external affairs are going pretty well. But like any system, we should always try to do more things better.
We have to push more off campus to make people aware of what’s going on with UCSA and with external affairs and just make sure that we get out there and be heard.
What are the important issues for you as a Executive Vice President candidate?
As Executive Vice President, I will ensure all UCI students are represented in ASUCI. I feel as students we have certain universal needs which should be addressed by the UCI Administration and the California Legislature.
I will work closely with UCSA, other California public universities, and the UCI Legislative Council to deal with issues important to UCI students including organizational housing, affordability and accessibility of higher education.

Kyle M. Olney is a third-year mechanical engineering and political science double major.
What is the state of external affairs and what would you do differently?
As far as external affairs is concerned, I think that my main priority would be focusing UCSA into being efficient and self-actualizing body. Right now, it’s a bit scatterbrained; there are too many agenda issues that they’re trying to push and concessions come. I think that a lot of the larger campus communities i.e. Berkeley and LA tend to dominate the agenda a lot. UCI is sending the most prepared lobbyers

Ingrid Cruz is a third-year studio art major.
What kind of experience would you bring to the office of the Vice President?
As current at-large representative on the ASUCI Legislative Council, I have familiarized myself with the needs of students as a whole. As executive vice president, I hope to organize UCI and make students aware of the role we play in fighting for fair tuition, changing our educational system and demanding that student interests are put first in our agenda.
What is the state of external affairs and what would you do differently?
One of the things that I’m ashamed of is that not a lot of students know about it on campus. But I feel that if we use whatever resources, like UCSA, it will give us a lot of power.
