AJ Sciutto is a fourth-year film studies and digital arts major.
In your candidate statement you name ‘working with housing’ as part of your platform. What does that mean specifically?
With housing, I really plan on speeding up the rate that the third section of VDC gets built. With housing’s new policy of guarantee housing to all first and second years, the options for upper-classmen have plummeted and housing needs to fix it as soon as possible. I also really plan on establishing a Greek Row within the next five years.
Offer a unique reason why an average UCI student should vote for you over someone else.
How many people do you know personally who are proud that Ocean’s 11 was shot partly on the UCI campus? That seems to me to be something students are really proud of. I personally work in film. I’ve worked with actors such as Nicholas Cage, Jessica Beil, and Julianne Moore on a film called ‘Next’ coming out this summer. I’ve also worked on ‘Terminator 3,’ ‘Monster House,’ ‘Wild Hogs’ and other films as a production assistant. This knowledge about film has enlightened me to the fact that if we drastically reduce our location costs that we charge films to shoot on campus with the architecture we have at UCI, and with my connections to various location scouts with various studios, we could get a lot more films to be shot here.

2007 ASUCI Elections Presidential Candidates: Neena R. Dolwani
Julian Camillieri and Stella Cho | Apr 16, 2007 | Comments 0
Neena R. Dolwani is a third-year international studies major.
Could you identify one shortcoming of the current Office of the President and explain how you would improve or change that area?
With over 400 organizations on our campus, I feel that the Club Outreach Commission under the Office of the President is what needs to be improved the most. I was president of a cultural club but was never once contacted by ASUCI.
As President I will seek to improve this commission by designating hired interns to specific organizations. These interns will be required to give weekly reports to their commissioners in regard to large events hosted by their respective clubs, in addition to communicating to the clubs about upcoming ASUCI events.
In your candidate statement you name ‘coming from a diverse background’ as a strong point for your candidacy. How does a diverse background help with the specific duties of the Office of the President?
As a second year at UCI I held the presidency for one of the largest cultural clubs of UC Irvine, the Indian Subcontinental Club.
Having a diverse background is a necessity for the Office of the President. Not only does the president deal with the logistical aspects of ASUCI but it is also the head of the funding board which allocates funds to various clubs and organizations. My diverse experience comes from having both cultural club experience and knowledge of how ASUCI works.

2007 ASUCI Elections Presidential Candidates: Mo Eldessouky
Julian Camillieri and Stella Cho | Apr 16, 2007 | Comments 0
Mo Eldessouky is a fourth-year criminology, law and society major.
Could you pick one of the goals outlined in your candidate statement and give us some specific ways in which you intend to achieve this goal?
In reference to actively addressing issues of student importance, I will utilize roundtable discussions, club meetings, surveys and tabling in order to develop a better understanding of what students want, need and desire to be changed at UCI. Upon compiling this information, I will continually meet with the dean of students and other administrators in order to press that student voices are constantly heard, and that decisions which are made address the wants and needs of students. Additionally, I plan to fully utilize the monthly administrative luncheons in order to continually discuss matters which are occurring at the university and student-wide level.
Pretend I am an average UCI student, with no connection to any club, sorority, fraternity or social group and I know nothing about you or any of the other candidates. Offer me a reason why I should vote for you over anyone else.
One unique attribute that distinguishes me from my opponents is that I am a highly dedicated individual who strives to achieve all of my goals. For example, upon becoming an instructor for ASUCI’s Visions Leadership Class, I pressed myself to create a course book to afford students the opportunity to take with them a reference to use in their future endeavors. This is just a glimpse of the type of president I will be if I am elected.

2007 ASUCI Elections Presidential Candidates: Oracio Sanchez
Julian Camillieri and Stella Cho | Apr 16, 2007 | Comments 0
Oracio Sanchez is a third-year Spanish major.
Pretend I am an average UCI student, with no connection to any club, sorority, fraternity or social group and I know nothing about you or any of the other candidates. Give me one unique reason why I should vote for you over anyone else.
My reason for why you should vote for me is because I am a student that is very diverse, going from athletics, involved in organizations, have many friends that are in a fraternity or sorority, know many different aspects of the campus and especially know students who are not active here at UCI. I want to change that, I want to make sure that students have a place and a sense of belonging here and that they take pride in being called an Anteater, as I have in my stay at UCI.
Name one shortcoming of the current Office of the President and explain how you would improve or change that area.
I believe the Office has really had little communication with athletics. I found it surprising this year when I went to the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee meeting and found out that this entire year no body under the Office of the President has outreached to the athletes. I want to make sure that this changes next year because I want to bring more unity to this campus and promoting all the sports that UCI competes at is a good way to bring spirit to the campus.
