As the third week of spring quarter gets underway, the Parking and Transportation Services’ increased enforcement of bike-riding restrictions at UC Irvine has clearly affected cyclists on Ring Mall, which seems to be experiencing an overall decrease in traffic volume.
‘In terms of cycling, the first week has gone very well,’ said Human Resources and Communications Specialist for UCI Parking and Transportation Services Jennifer Cartnal. ‘There is a noticeable difference that the campus as a whole is complying with the policies.’
Parking and Transportation Services aimed to educate riders about not riding on Ring Mall during winter quarter. Spring quarter marks the start of a more disciplinary approach to the problem. From the beginning of the increased enforcement back in December, the way tickets are issued has changed.
Effective April 2, the UCI Police Department has delegated the task of issuing tickets for bike and pedestrian violations
