The anti-abortion lobby, in its never-ending quest to show the country how much they love children and want to encourage healthy and happy families, has finally determined the value of a precious little bundle of joy: $500.
According to a proposal by Texas Republican State Senator Dan Patrick, which has not yet been voted on, that’s how much money would be paid by the state of Texas to any woman considering an abortion who elects to instead carry the baby to term and give it up for adoption. In a move obviously intended more to simply pressure women not to have abortions than to address the economic inequities and social circumstances that compel women to seek abortions in the first place, the proposal comes dangerously close to buying babies
