Since Halloween is right around the corner, is there a better time to justify our unhealthy fixation with chocolate than now? It’s everywhere this time of year. But who are we kidding? It’s everywhere at anytime of the year, wherever our unsuspecting eyes happen to look. So, good luck with that diet.
American culture binges on chocolate any chance it gets. Nearly every major holiday seems to be a justification for the consumption of this sugary concoction. For Valentine’s Day, it’s a heart-shaped box. When Easter comes around, it’s chocolate shaped like eggs. For Halloween, there are ‘fun size’ candy bars, and Christmas brings Advent calendars with 24 chocolaty surprises (one treat for each day of the month leading up to Dec. 25).
Chocolate has also spread its influence into romance and dating: occasions such as apologies, anniversaries, birthdays
