World of Warcraft Partially Unites China

According to a 2007 study by UC Irvine anthropologist and informatics professor Bonnie Nardi and graduate student Silvia Lindtner, ‘World of Warcraft’ is working to bring gamers in China closer together.
Previously, critics of WoW have accused Chinese gamers of being devoted to the game solely for financial reasons. In this way, some Chinese players have worked as ‘gold farmers, who play WoW in order to collect ‘gold’ in the game, which is then sold to other players for profit, ranging from a few dollars to thousands of real-world dollars.
