How exactly is a 22-year-old male with relatively little experience dealing with the opposite sex supposed to react to a show that revolves around vaginas? Seeing as I don’t have one and have only a technical understanding of its function in the human body, what would even be the appeal of such a show to me? These were the questions I asked myself as I sat down Saturday night in a mostly-packed Physical Sciences Lecture Hall for this year’s V-Day UC Irvine performance of the Vagina Monologues, a series of monologues about perhaps the most taboo subject in popular culture: vaginas.
I hear it already: A two-hour show of women talking about their vaginas? Putting aside the obvious discomfort the subject causes in most men, I also wondered what a member of the male sex could gain from seeing such a show and assumed this was a by-women-for-women sort of thing.
Nothing could be further from the truth. The show is indeed discomforting to most men
