New University: So, what was your goal for your new record “11th Hour” ?
Del Tha Funkee Homosapien: I wanted to make it funky, but keep it on the hip-hop side, too. I wanted to bring it back to what I’m about, you know what I mean?
New U: What is “Del” about? Who did you listen to growing up in Oakland?
Del: George Clinton, James Brown, pretty much.
New U: Your style and lyricism is quite distinct, did you work on making yourself standout out as an MC?
Del: Pretty much it’s just like that. Everybody is an individual. I just do it. But I do work on the song-writing, you know what I’m saying, the metaphors, the song-writing so I get some point across so I’m not just babbling.
New U: Not only do you rap, but you produce a lot, too. What do you use?
Del: I use a Macbook. And I’ve been using Live 3 for a while now. I use a lot of native instruments and plug-ins, but the main one I use is Contact 2. With that, I can pretty much do whatever you think of.
New U: Can you think of your favorite performance?
Del: Probably the most favorite show I did was up in Harlem at the Apollo because I did two shows in one night. And they gave it up. They was standing on their feet. It was the first time anyone had seen me. To be up there and rock the Apollo and nobody clown me, that was tight.
