Justin Cassel, a former pitcher for UC Irvine, has been named to the Southern League All-Star team after putting together an ERA of 3.92 for the Birmingham Broncos, a Double-A affiliate of the Chicago White Sox.Cassel has totaled a 7-3 record and was named league pitcher of the week on May 4.
Blair Erickson, playing with the Fort Myers Miracle of the MinnesotaTwins, has struck out 23 in 22.1 innings pitched and put together an ERA of 2.05.
Wes Etheridge has saved four games while striking out 23 batters in 22 innings for the Milwaukee Brewers Class-A affiliate West Virginia Power.
Spike McDougal has been a surprise standout for the Jupiter Hammerheads (Class-A Florida Marlins), knocking in 34 RBI’s with 54 hits and a batting average of .230 on the season.
Last season’s Ace and All-American Scott Gorgen struck out 10 batters in nine innings for the St. Louis Cardinals Class-A affiliate, the Batavia Muckdogs.
Another star from last years roster, Aaron Lowenstein, is batting .286 with four hits and four RBI’s for the AZL Giants, in the San Francisco Rookie League.
