Record Number of Voters Register at UC Schools
Endorsed by University of California President Mark Yudof, the Official UC Student Voter Registration Week, taking place from Oct. 13 to Oct. 20, concluded with a record number of 20,970 UC students registered.
UC Students Vote!, the largest non-partisan youth voter mobilization group in California, registered a total of 40,000 student voters across state campuses.
The project is run entirely by students and is supported by the University of California Student Association (UCSA) and the United States Student Association Foundation (USSAF).
UC campuses are currently in the lead in the Ultimate College Bowl, a national contest that awards the school that registers the most voters with a free Death Cab For Cutie concert. UC Santa Barbara is in the lead with 10,222 voters, followed by UC Berkley with 9,822 voters.
UC Irvine early voter registration is being held at Crescent Bay AB in the Student Center Oct. 27-28, 7:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Donald Bren’s Name Dropped from Law School
Despite Donald Bren’s $20 million endowment to UC Irvine’s new law school, the Orange County Business Journal reports that Bren’s name will not be retained in the title of the school as per the original agreements.
An Aug. 13, 2007 press release stated that in recognition of the gift, the school would be named the Donald Bren School of Law. The eight-page agreement also detailed other specifications in exchange for the donation. According to the Los Angeles Times, these included having the right to be consulted in selecting a dean for the school and ensuring that the “Donald Bren School of Law” signs would be at least twice the size of the building name.
Dean Erwin Chemerinsky has also stated that Bren’s name may be added to the school later on.
