It is Time to Tailgate at the Bren Again

Break out your rib-eyes, cuts of chicken breast and carne asada, ‘Eater Nation. The men’s volleyball team will be taking on the University of Southern California on Wednesday at the Bren Events Center, and the athletic department and ASUCI are sponsoring another great tailgate event.

If you already have a meal plan, you’re set. Just walk up and swipe your ID card in order to get a free voucher for the barbeque provided by UC Irvine Dining. If you don’t, no need to worry. The first 250 people will get a voucher for free barbeque. If barbeque is not on the top of your list but you still want to be a part of the tailgate, there will be free kettle corn and cotton candy provided as well.

Then more importantly, after the tailgate party, the men’s volleyball team will start its match at 7 p.m. Get there early because this one should fill up. USC fans come out in numbers, so ‘Eater nation needs to represent for its number one ranked team.

The last time Irvine went up against USC, they took it to five games with Irvine coming out on top. But at no point will this match be anything like the previous one. Both teams have improved dramatically since the last meeting and Irvine is coming off a rough weekend at BYU, but that is all the more reason for the students to get out and support the team.

But Wednesday is not the only day to make our student presence known. Baseball is embarking on a memorable season, and after a huge series against rival California State University Fullerton last weekend, we will be playing in another big series this weekend. And as far as rankings are concerned, the Anteaters are hot.

Why are the ‘Eaters hot? This is why they are hot: UCI swept then 19th-ranked Cal Poly San Luis Obispo to open Big West action and then toppled first-ranked Cal State Fullerton on the road last weekend. The eighth-ranked Anteaters return home this week to partake in their fair share of the Black and Blue rivalry. Cal State Long Beach is not as solid as in years past (14-12 through Saturday), but has gained some momentum as of late.

It should be an exciting weekend at Anteater Ballpark.
