Feb. 28 – UC Irvine junior Lauren Collins broke her own school record in the high jump with a mark of 6-0. Her previous school record was 5-11 1/4 set in 2007. She also won the All-UC Meet at Anteater Stadium with the new mark. She took home the long jump with a mark of 19-0, trying her for fourth in school history with Kristi Kaufmann (1991).
Freshman Sanmisola George also won two events for UCI as she took first place in the 100 meters (12.24) and 200 meters (24.87).
Fellow freshman Golde Ibia won the 100-meter hurdles in 14.37.
Candice Chavez flexed her endurance in the 3,000-meter race with a time of 10:11.99 to win the event.
Alisha Misiaita and Jenny Lee rounded out the first place finishers for the ‘Eaters. Misiaita won the shot put with a mark of 49-4 1/4. Lee won the javelin throw at 123-5.
UCI women finished second in the competition with 192 points behind UC San Diego’s 216.
The UCI men’s team also finished second behind UC Santa Barbara with 186.50 points to the Gauchos 198.50.
Junior Matt Lahti placed first in the discus throw (151-7) and in the hammer throw (178-1).
Julian Eison won the high jump at 6-8 3/4 and Mike Navarro took the long jump at 22-11 3/4.
Tim Murphy won the 800 meters and Napoleon Greene placed first in the 400 meters hurdles to round out the winners on the track.
March 20 – Collins continues to break school records as the heptathlon was her latest victim. Her total of 5.549 points broke her previous record of 5,512. The score at the Northridge Spring Break Open automatically qualified her for the NCAA Championships at Fayetteville, AR., June 10 to 13 and also for the USA Track and Field Championships at Eugene, OR., June 25 to 28. Her performance earned her Big West Conference Athlete of the Week honors.
Charles Jock also earned the same honor on the men’s side with his win in the 800 meters at the Spring Break Invitational at Anteater Stadium. His time of 1:49.18 was fourth-best in school history and fastest by a UCI runner in 21 years. He also qualifies for the NCAA West Regionals at Eugene, OR., May 29 to 30.
March 29 – Misiaita won the shot put with a school-record 51-9 3/4 in the Cal/Nevada Championships at UC Los Angeles’ Drake Stadium. The junior broke her own school record of 50-8 1/4, which she set last year.
Jock was at it again in the 800 meters as he won with a mark of 1:51.87.
Colin Hacker finished first in the 1500 meters at 3:47.85.
April 10 – The Lady Anteaters’ field captured the Big West Challenge Cup at the Titan Track Complex. UCI’s 194.50 points earned them the victory over California State University Fullerton (167.50), California State University Long Beach (157) and UCSB (152).
Samantha Costantini was a double winner as she won the 800 meters in 2:15.94 and the 1,500 meters at 4:35.90.
Misiaita won the shot put for the fourth time this season at 50-8 3/4. Madeline Leduc won the triple jump (38-2) and Lee won the javelin throw (118-11) as well as the 4×400 relay in 3:49.70.
Lauren Chramosta set a record in the 3,000-meter steeplechase as she finished third with a mark of 10:47.01.
The men’s side took second place behind first place finishes from Lahti, Eison and Jock, the 4×100 and 4×400 relay teams.
Lahti won the hammer throw with a lifetime-best mark of 203-0 and Eison won the high jump at 6-10 3/4. He was named Big West Conference Athlete of the Week for men’s field events. Jock won the 400 meters in 48.25.
April 17– Senior Julian Eison won the high jump at the 51st annual Mt. SAC Relays Friday night. He cleared 7 1/2 to tie his number two mark in UCI history.
April 19 – The UC Irvine men’s 4×100-meter relay finished second in the VS Athletics Beach Invitational at Cerritos College on Saturday; its second top three finish.
