What if we just got rid of the Parking and Transportation Department? I'm sick and tired of paying for pointless parking tickets. It seems that the fees and fines only go to pay for a "service" that we don't even want (i.e. collecting the fees and giving our tickets). It is designed pure and simply to extract money out of the student body. There are rules governing whether you can back into a stall, or face head first in a stall, ambiguous signs, and now all that has been sub-compacted into zones which further confuse and bemuddle students. It took me a year and a half to figure out the proper times and parking zones, to efficiently determine where I should park when I have a class. For an incoming freshman, or if I was in that position of having to buy a permit for a zone with no previous knowledge, I would be lost. I’ve always found parking to feel like a sham at UCI.
