The Bracket for the Men’s soccer NCAA Tournament has been released, and UCI has earned a first roud bye for the second straight year. After earning a No. 14 seed last year, they have received a No. 16 spot in 2009, and will play the winner of Stanford and St. Mary’s. That game will be on Thursday and then UCI will play the winner on Sunday at Anteater Stadium at 6 PM.

It is interesting to note that previous No. 4 ranked UCSB, who UCI beat in the Big West championships 4-1, did not receive a first round bye. According to NCAA.com, the other seeded (and thus receiving first round byes) teams are (in order) University of Akron; University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill; UCLA; Penn State University; University of Tulsa; Northwestern University; Harvard University; University of San Diego; Butler University, St. John’s University (who knocked out UCI last year in the third round); Michigan State University; and North Carolina State.

Let’s all go and support our ‘Eaters in a boisterous and spirited manner on Sunday!
