Is anyone else having a problem with the UCI Medical Center? The center refuses to acknowledge that I called in three times to have a dentist appointment canceled because they failed to acknowledge my request the first two times. This is the only system they have in place, leaving a message on the answering machine. I've made a good share of appointments to the medical center and it always seems that they never have someone to answer the phone, and when I do a walk-in the attendant always ignores the ringing phone. When I saw my college bill and noticed that there was a $40 for the "canceled" dentist appointment. I immediately called up the medical center to annul this false charge. After rudely denying their mistake, they demanded that I come up with tangible evidence. That would be fine, if they didn't delete all their messages, and I don't record my phone calls. So I'm going to end up paying the bill and a late fee because they failed to notify me, and start to record all my phone calls. For the kind of money I'm paying to finance this I should get better service.

Totally agree with arrogance while providing marginal services especially for Medicaid and Medicare patients. Federal investigators must conduct a thorough administrative and financial probe into them. They'll be amazed on how many UCI departments are a set up to attract Medicaid and Medicare patients but end up providing limited care. Government must revoke funding to UCI Medical Center once and for all ! Maybe their arrogance will get them a bank loan!

Agree with language issue too. Well written.

How do do you cure arrogance? It seems to be the root of so many of UCI deficiencies. The ego battles within the pharmacy department alone is amazing. Who's got the most titles? Who has the most credentials? Who has the most power? No wonder that during the last inspection that pharmacy was part of the Immediate Jeaopardy (a state wherein Health and Human Services is authorized to immediately close a hospital to protect patient safety) Common sense and sensitivity to patient care should be the overriding goal of this one department. It's a scary place. The nurses deserve better service. But, at UCI, personnel don't even have to speak coherent English. If your loved one winds up in this hospital, demand that caretakers speak English or provide a translator. At the very least, keep a family member there 24 hours a day.Survival could depend on it.
