In a sport that has allready gotten plenty of negative press and is being regulated more and more, I'm glad you think it's appropriate to put people in danger as coaches learn what they need to do. This is a stunting/tumbling team, not song/pom. Keep her on as head of the program, hire on a cheer only coach that goes to practice twice a week. This happens all too often - coaches hired on because they were on a team for a year, and the results are always scary.

I think people are entitled to their comments and opinions. Negative comments doesn't help fix the problem.

Give Ms. Chen a chance to do what she needs to do.
I believe she will prove you both wrong.

I attended UCI, and was interested in the cheer program. However, once I started going to some of the events and an open practice it's clear that this woman has ruined a once credited co-ed program. I agree that marketing should reconsider in continuing to let her destroy this team and represent the University of California Irvine. She has absolutely no idea on how to coach a once competitive cheerleading team and is putting these athletes in serious danger due to her in-competence of the sport!

It would have been nice if some research was done before this article was printed - having a dance background and participating on a NFL "cheer" team really has absolutely nothing to do with real cheerleading, ESPECIALLY at a collegiate level. Maybe someone should ask the head of marketing how many complaints he's gotten about her lack of knowledge and coaching skills when it comes to cheerleading. You would think schools would put more though into who they hire into a coaching position that deals with such a dangerous sport.
