- Ace Daniel Bibona reportedly turned down more than $100,000 in signing bonus from the St. Louis Cardinals to return to UCI for his senior season.
- Much to the chagrin of the UCI coaching staff, top recruit Paul Strong will forego his college career, instead signing with the Texas Rangers after being drafted in the 17th round.
- UCI was voted to finish second in the Big West for the second straight year behind perennial powerhouse Cal State Fullerton. Last year, UCI topped the Titans, winning the conference outright, but still received a lower seed in the NCAA Tournament. The Titans are coached by Dave Serrano, who chose to leave UCI for Fullerton after the 2007 season, in which UCI made their historic College World Series run.
- Sophomore utility player Jordan Fox wears the number 43 in honor of Richard Petty. Yes, the NASCAR driver. Fox also holds the rare distinction of being a natural shortstop who throws left-handed.
