Gilbert Geis, long-time criminologist and professor, passes at 87.

UCI white-collar criminologist Gilbert Geis passed away at the age of 87 on Saturday, Nov. 10. Geis joined the UC Irvine campus in 1971 and was instrumental in establishing the foundation for the School of Social Ecology and its Department of Criminology, Law, and Society.

Having served as the president of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners and on the National Council on Crime & Delinquency, Geis’s contributions, according to his colleagues and contemporaries, include inspiring and mentoring researchers in the fields of white-collar crime study. Memorial services for Geis were held on Nov. 14 in Corona del Mar.
