UC Irvine has launched a review of the police actions that occurred at a student protest that occurred during UC President Janet Napolitano’s visit to UCI on Oct. 28, 2013. The review is assigned to Ed McErlain, a senior private investigator of Norman A. Traub Associates Incorporated, the external independent investigating agency looking into the incident.
McErlain has conducted over 250 administrative and personnel investigations, specializing in investigations of internal affairs for public safety agencies. He retired from the Huntington Beach Police Department after 32 years of serving as a patrol officer, detective, sergeant, lieutenant and captain.
Anyone with information about the improper use of force or anyone who witnessed unlawful actions by police offers during the event in question is encouraged to contact McErlain and leave a message at 949-824-5122.
Following his investigation, he will report his findings to UCI Administration.
