Life at UC Irvine is rough without a car — especially if you’re just starting out as a freshman living in a dorm. Compound that with trying to get a handle on the real-life dating world and you’ve got a picture-perfect dilemma on your hands.
By the age of ten, I ran away with the Boxcar children, fought alien species with the Animorphs, traveled through a wardrobe to Narnia and attended Hogwarts with Harry, Ron and Hermione. I was an orphan, a superhero, an adventurer and a witch.
It may be 80 degrees outside, but fall has officially arrived. While the heat may prevent us from comfortably taking advantage of all of fall’s trends, elements from the runways can be translated into real life.
Greetings from Lyon, France, where I have been homeless for the last month. Well, kind of.
The EAP Full Immersion Program in Lyon, France warned participants of two things: classes are taught in French and housing is not provided. Yours truly interpreted this as, “Elysabeth, you’re going to become fluent in French and you’re going to have a lovely flat in Lyon, France for four beautiful months.”
Caitlin Sanders, a fourth year Criminology and Political Science double major, can finally breathe again.
This past weekend, she took the Law School Admissions Test (LSAT) after eight weeks of three to four hours of studying a day, getting used to phrasing her everyday conversation in terms of “what can you confer” or “the conclusion is valid if...”, and ingraining her favorite drink order into the minds of the Starbucks staff off Michaelson and Jamboree.
I’m going to start by saying that for the past three months, my family has been in official “wedding mode.” My uncle is getting married and everyone in the family is rushing to make sure the big day goes smoothly. They’re also doing everything they can to make sure they look good on the day of the wedding, when they will forever be immortalized in photographs.
Conflict and violence have been a part of the human condition since we first crawled out of the sea (or woke up in the Garden of Eden, depending on your narrative). I ask you, dear Reader, to keep this in mind as you read on, and to remember this is my own personal perspective.
