Traveling With ASUCI International Day
The world can be just a few steps away from our very own campus here at UC Irvine. At least that was the message of Associated Students of UCI International Day on Tuesday, May 29. Held on Ring Mall, this event featured over 20 different booths, each sponsored by a UCI club, organization or department. [...]
On Deck With UCI’s Sailing Association
Most UC Irvine students know how to take advantage of our proximity to beautiful beaches, whether it is by surfing, body boarding or just plain tanning. Yet there is one water sport that often goes unnoticed by Anteaters: sailing. To be competitive, this sport needs as much strength, stamina and determination as any other sport [...]
Create a Violence-Free Society
Amidst the midterms, papers and parties, college students can find it hard to believe that just a 20-minute period can actually make our lives stress-free and easier. This was the message that was emphasized during the Art of Living Organization’s talk, ‘Creating a Violence-Free Society.’
With guest speaker international humanitarian Swami Pragyapad, this event strived [...]
Teddy Bear Clinic for Santa Ana Children
Waiting in a doctor’s office to be pricked and poked can be a very scary thing, even for adults. But for young children, fear of a simple doctor’s appointment can be intense.
Unfortunately, it may not take a lot of bad experiences to associate the doctor with boo-boos, bruises, and long, sharp needles. Student Health Outreach [...]
UCI Celebrates Cinco de Mayo
For those with the slightest familiarity with Spanish, Cinco de Mayo can be one of the easiest holidays to remember. While most know when this holiday is, not many of us know the reason behind the celebration beyond its origin in Mexico. Movimiento Estudiantil Chicano de Aztlan has worked very hard this year toward eradicating [...]
Environmentally Safe Dorm Room
College students have to worry about roommates, cooking meals, friends, family, parties and, of course, studying. Unless they’re in the Green Campus Program, most don’t have time to worry about what we do to the environment in our everyday routines.
To make things easier for us, the Green Campus Program and Student Housing Office has come [...]
Would You Like to Sleep With the Fish?
With its scuba class, UC Irvine’s Anteater Recreation Center staff has given a new meaning to ‘sleeping with the fish.’ Scuba diving allows someone to swim underwater with compressed air in order to reach greater depths and really see the marine life.
‘It’s very relaxing [since] it’s just you and the ocean,’ said David Leong, a [...]
OC Ghost Hunters Bust VDC Norte
UC Irvine students were able to gain some ‘paranormal’ enlightenment with a visit from the Orange County Ghost Hunters to Vista del Campo Norte on April 18.
According to the flier, VDC Norte brought OCGH to validate any paranormal sightings or hearings reported in and to explain how they will detect anything beyond VDC’s natural environment.
The [...]
Sexual Assault Awareness: Bright T-Shirts Reveal Dark Realities
Every April for a couple of days, a multitude of T-shirts hang from clotheslines tied to the trees in front of Langson Library. While from far away it may seem like a pretty display of colors, a closer look reveals that these shirts and their unsettling words are a harsh dose of reality. The exhibit [...]
The Non-Greek Greeks
To wear your letters is an act of pride toward any Greek organization. With years of movies and social ideas, there is a ‘coolness’ factor that is connected to the stereotyped Greek life. But what about the Greek organizations that are not focused on simply the camaraderie, but unite individuals on another factor? Although they [...]
