CALPIRG to Hold Press Conference on Textbook Prices
The California Public Interest Research Goup will hold a press conference on Jan. 29 in front of the UCI bookstore, where they will release a report about the high cost of college textbooks and discuss gimmicks that they accuse publishing companies of using to drive up those costs.
The report includes faculty testimonials and also makes policy recommendations.
CALPIRG is a student organization that focuses on advocating issues for the public interest.
Several faculty, students and CALPIRG representatives will be speaking at the press conference.
Irvine Mayor to Deliver ‘State of the City Report’
On Jan. 27, City of Irvine Mayor Larry Agran will present his annual ‘State of the City Report’ in council chambers during a city council meeting at 6 p.m.
The report will highlight the achievements of the previous year and address plans for 2004 and current issues affecting the city.
Following the meeting, the A.M.E. Church choir will perform in the council chambers.
Council chambers are located at 1 Civic Center Plaza in the Irvine Civic Center. The presentation can also be viewed live on Channels 3 and 30.
