Finding ways to get involved on campus is truly a difficult ordeal. You want to make a genuine difference, you want experience that would prepare you for real life and, at the same time, it wouldn’t be so bad if you could get something other than warm, fuzzy satisfaction back in return.
The undergraduate housing communities are getting ready to start their application and selection processes for next year’s student housing staff, which means that a unique leadership opportunity is now available to students who are interested in applying.
The positions available include Community Programmer, House Assistant and Resident Advisor.
Each position has different responsibilities, but they all include working with residents in order to enhance their experience at UC Irvine, as well as to provide support and encouragement when needed.
Shirin Houshangi, fourth-year psychology and social behavior major and Middle Earth R.A. described the demands of her position.
‘Our role is pretty much to live with [the students] and help them as much as we can in their transition from wherever they’re coming from into life at UCI and all aspects of that [process]
