UCI Assistant A.D. Khari Johnson Resigns
Irvine, Calif.- Dec. 27 – Khari Johnson announced his resignation effective Jan. 7. He is pursuing a career in real estate finance. He has been with UCI for seven-and-a-half years.
Men’s V-Ball Defeated in Tourney
Santa Barbara, Calif. – Jan. 8 – No. 3 Pacific defeated the No. 8 UC Irvine Men’s Volleyball team, 3-1, in the fifth-place match of the Elephant Bar Invitational. Freshman Jon Steller was named to the Elephant Bar Invitational All-Tournament team.
Women’s B-ball Falls to Pacific
Stockton, Calif. – Jan. 8 – The UC Irvine Women’s Basketball team (1-11, BW 0-4) was unable to defeat Pacific (4-7, BW 2-2) as the Tigers played a strong second half. Pacific defeated UCI, 54-42 at the Alex G. Spanos Center in a Big West Conference game.
Merlo, Barry and Noon Honored
Irvine, Calif. – Dec. 31 – Three of UC Irvine’s Men’s Water Polo players were honored by the American Water Polo Coaches Association.
Senior driver Rick Merlo was named into the first team All-American while junior driver Dreason Barry received second team All-American honors. Senior two-meter defender Dan Noon was recognized as an All-American honorable mention.
Wing Named AVCA Second Team All-American
Irvine, Calif. – Dec. 15 – Senior outside hitter Kelly Wing was named Second Team All-American by the American Volleyball Coaches Association. She is a two-time All-American after a stellar four-year career at UCI.
Baseball Ranked 40th in Poll
Irvine, Calif. – Jan. 5 – Baseball America Preseason Top 50 Poll ranked the UC Irvine Baseball team 40th.
Relief pitcher Blair Erickson was chosen as the ‘Louisville Slugger’ preseason third-team All-American by collegiate baseball.
The Fabulous 40 publication ranked UCI 36th in their poll. UCI received 11 letters of intent for the 2005-2006 baseball season.
