Relay For Life Battles Cancer
UC Irvine’s Aldrich Park was the location for the 2005 Relay for Life, sponsored by the American Cancer Society. It was the first time that UCI hosted the even. Lasting from April 30 to May 1, the 24-hour event celebrated cancer survivors and the memory of those who unfortunately lost the battle.
The event raised funds for the fight against cancer and awareness on how to prevent it.
Monique Chacon, a member of a UCI club called Colleges Against Cancer, was the 2005 relay chair.
‘Relay for life is American Cancer Society’s signature event that raises most of the money that ACS uses to fund their programs. Those programs include funding for cancer research and various other patient oriented service programs,’ Chacon said.
