Urban Planning Professors Raise Awareness on Growing Inequality
Television shows such as ‘The OC’ have given Orange County a reputation for being affluent, with expensive cars and wealthy lifestyles. On average, OC residents are financially stable, however, demographic studies show that OC still struggles with economic issues such as homelessness and ethnic inequality as much as other counties in California.
On May 12, the Community Outreach Partnership Center hosted a lecture at the University Club entitled ‘Orange County: A Report Card on Growing Inequality.’ The lecture featured four keynote speakers who attempted to bring attention to the lower-income sectors of OC.
‘I want people to use the data,’ said Pamela Austin, chief executive officer of the Orange County Health Needs Assessment, Partnerships for Health. ‘I want them to understand who they’re talking about so that they make the decisions and their policy judgments on what’s really happening
