Rap’s Falling Quality
I am in no way in a position to judge people’s personal opinions and tastes. Humans have an inalienable right to the freedom of choice and preference. We are blessed with the ability to rationalize and understand our environment.
But why in the hell do people like today’s version of ‘rap’ music? It is fake, diluted, materialistic and misogynistic.
Rap is the bastard child of hip-hop, an art form far more pure and almost devoid of rap’s undermining characteristics. Hip-hop is a form of expression with deep roots in African culture and tradition. It serves as a way for an artist to express his or her emotions and feelings through rhyme and rhythm. Hip-hop is all about making the most credible, most honest and strongest music possible with just a beat and a voice. Rap nowadays cannot compare to artists like Eric B. and Rakim, Slick Rick, Tribe Called Quest, The Pharcyde, et cetera.
